Triathlon in Swindon – Growing Stronger Every Season
Swindon has become a vibrant hub for triathlon in the West Country, with athletes of all levels finding opportunities to train, race, and connect. From grassroots pool-based sprints to iconic open-water middle-distance events, the local calendar offers something for everyone. The town’s sporting facilities and nearby venues make it easy for newcomers to take their first steps into multisport while giving seasoned competitors the chance to test themselves against challenging courses.
Local Venues and Organizers
Just a short drive from Swindon, Lake 62 at Ashton Keynes is the beating heart of triathlon in the region. It hosts a series of sprint, Olympic, and middle-distance races throughout the spring and summer, including the renowned Cotswold 113 Middle Distance Triathlon in June. Local organizers such as 113 Events Ltd and LPS Events ensure that athletes have access to well-run, inclusive races that cater to both first-timers and experienced triathletes. Within Swindon itself, facilities like the Moredon Sporting Hub and Croft Sports Centre are increasingly supporting multisport training and smaller aquathlon or duathlon events, helping to build the community from the ground up.
What’s Coming Up
The first half of the year typically kicks off with pool-based sprint triathlons in April, perfect for those looking to sharpen their skills before the open-water season begins. May brings a wave of sprint and Olympic-distance races at Lake 62, while June sees the flagship Cotswold 113, drawing athletes from across the UK to race on Swindon’s doorstep. Alongside these headline events, local clubs and training hubs continue to run sessions and smaller competitions, ensuring there’s always a way to stay engaged with the sport.
